We urgently call on the UK Government to take bold action and champion climate justice at COP29
Safe routes for climate migrants will be a key solution to surviving climate breakdown – but action is needed, now, to get them.
Across the world, communities are being ravaged by floods, storms, and droughts—disasters driven by fossil fuel extraction that has benefitted the Global North. People are being forced to move, right now, by a climate crisis made here. On November 11th, leaders will be gathering for COP29, a key global conference on the climate crisis that is affecting us all.
Our Government must lead by example on the global stage by advocating for a just and urgent transition away from fossil fuels, and the provision of safe routes for people displaced by climate crisis. Without an urgent transition and safe routes, people uprooted by the climate crisis will be left with no protection.
Year after year, we see more time at COP given to oil and gas lobbyists than to people on the frontlines of the climate crisis – those who have lost their homes and livelihoods, and been forced to move. Safe migration routes and migration policy, while critical for people displaced by climate breakdown, are not discussed at international climate negotiations.
This is a global crisis that demands global leadership and global solutions.
We demand immediate, bold, and compassionate action. Climate justice cannot wait. The UK must step up and call for climate justice at COP 29.
Join us and demand climate and migrant justice.
